The first-ever 5-Star Cyber Law report names 67 law firms and lawyers that led the pack in cyber law
Australasian Lawyer is celebrating the stars of the country’s cyber law scene with its first-ever 5-Star Cyber Law Firms and Lawyers list.
Cyber law skyrocketed in importance as the increased digitalisation across businesses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic was accompanied by a spike in cyber-related concerns. Cyber attackers exploited system weaknesses resulting from the sudden transition to working from home, and preyed on people’s fears to bolster the effectivity of phishing attempts.
Ransomware was identified as the main cause of cybersecurity incidents in 2020-2021, and demand for legal advice in fields such as cybersecurity, data privacy and protection ticked upwards as businesses became increasingly aware of the risks surrounding the heightened use of tech.
Companies also became more conscious of their changing cyber law obligations, as awareness of the dangers of data breaches spurred law firms’ clients to seek clarity regarding breach reporting requirements.
Gilchrist Connell was one of the law firms that rose to the top of the cyber law scene during this period, joining a list of 37 firms that were highly regarded for their work, specialist expertise and service to clients in the cyber law space. The firm’s cybersecurity expert, Nitesh Patel, also received a nod for his work on this area.
In addition to Patel, 39 other lawyers were lauded for their cyber law skills by industry professionals, in-house counsel and peers, including Eaglegate Lawyers’ Nicole Murdoch.
