Squire Patton Boggs is acting for Western Australia’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) in relation to its public-private partnership with St John of God Health Care (SJOG).
The partnership aims to deliver hospitals on the new Midland Health Campus which mixes public and private facilities that are meant to work together. The law firm advised MRA on the sale to SJOG of a three-hectare site for the future development of a private hospital.
The parties completed the sale of the $10.6 million site on 21 November 2016 at a ceremony attended by Minister for Health, the Hon. John Day MLA and the Minister for Planning, the Hon. Donna Faragher, MLC.
The Squire Patton Boggs team advising MRA is led by partner Margie Tannock with senior associate Lauren Barnett and associate Natalie Cosh. SJOG was represented by its in-house team, led by General Counsel & Company Secretary, Larissa Johnstone, and including Legal Counsel Sophie Warburton.
The $360 million public hospital project was jointly funded by the state and federal governments and delivered under a public private partnership. The adjacent private hospital will be fully-funded by SJOG and will share some facilities and services with the public hospital to maximise efficiencies and represent a modern approach to the provision of health care facilities and services in WA.
“This ground breaking partnership represents the successful outcome of lengthy and extensive negotiations on the land package and sale agreement,” said Tannock.
“The Midland hospital project is an innovative arrangement between a state development authority and a private health provider, and unique land sale agreements were necessary to reflect the unique nature of the arrangement,” the lead Squire Patton Boggs partner added.
