Fordham University School of Law has launched a new program intended to help international lawyers and law students hone their legal English skills.
The first full semester of the new full-time program, called Legal English Institute (LEI), will start with the school’s fall program beginning 8 August and ending mid-December. Participants can enrol in a non-credit option, which costs US$6,000, or receive credit to be applied toward the Fordham LLM degree.
Classes include US legal system and law study, foundations of private law, lawyering skills, working with contracts, communication pragmatics for lawyers, and legal professional identity.
The LEI accepts students who have studied law outside the US. Those who enrol in the program are eligible for an F-1 student visa. Registration is ongoing and will end 15 July for the fall program.
