The new senior consultant will continue to collaborate with corporate teams at HSF
Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) corporate law veteran Angela Zhao has joined Kewei Law Firm, which is in a joint operation with HSF, as senior consultant.
"Our seamless work with Kewei supports growth in our firm network along China investments corridors in Asia and beyond, and has been hugely successful since its launch in 2019. We're thrilled to offer clients access to an integrated service inclusive of international and local law expertise, including lawyers such as Angela," HSF Asia managing partner May Tai said. “A Herbert Smith Freehills alumna, Angela embodies our client-first approach that supports longstanding growth for clients in the region.”
Zhao focuses on cross-border M&A transactions, restructurings, divestitures, joint ventures and foreign direct investment in China. She has tackled corporate transactions and regulatory issues for clients across the globe and in China, as well as complex transactions in the pharma and healthcare, consumer, manufacturing and industrials, logistics and automobile sectors.
At Kewei’s Shanghai office, she will continue to work in close collaboration with HSF’s regional and global corporate teams.
"Transactional and regulatory advice is a key offering to our clients, and Angela strengthens our skills in both cross-border and domestic markets," Kewei international partner Gavin Guo said. "She is highly regarded for her client empathy and critical thinking, making her a trusted legal specialist from general corporate advisory to high-profile transactions."
Tai said that Zhao’s appointment was a further extension of HSF’s China capabilities, and responds to “the growing demand from the firm's clients for corporate expertise in China matters.”
“Over the past two years, the success of our joint operation with Kewei has exceeded all our expectations, and Angela's appointment is just the latest expansion of the team,” Tai said.
HSF’s joint operation with Kewei makes HSF one of just eight global law firms that can incorporate China law advice with international legal services in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.
