HWL Ebsworth has advised TasRecycle Limited on its successful appointment as Scheme Coordinator for the Tasmanian Government’s new container refund program, Recycle Rewards. This appointment sees HWL Ebsworth playing a key role in supporting the legal and regulatory aspects of launching the initiative, which aims to boost recycling efforts across Tasmania.

TasRecycle, a not-for-profit joint venture between Asahi Beverages, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, and Lion, will be responsible for managing the operations of the scheme. The program will introduce 49 container refund locations across the state, providing financial incentives for recycling eligible beverage containers.

As legal advisors, HWL Ebsworth’s involvement ensured that TasRecycle met all necessary legal requirements as it took on its role in Tasmania’s environmental sustainability efforts.

The HWL Ebsworth team was led by partner Justin Pasa, alongside special counsel Iain McLaren, senior associates Nicole Butler and Vien Tran, solicitor Erin Upson, and partners Sarah Carroll, Jason O’Connell, and Sarah Sealy. Their expertise spanned various aspects of the project, from corporate law to intellectual property, finance, and employment issues.
