The deal sees Oxford International Education Group take over Australia’s Universal Higher Education and Universal English
Maddocks has helped Universal Learning Group’s founder to divest Universal Higher Education (UHE) and Universal English (UE) in Australia to UK-based organisation Oxford International Education Group (OIEG).
Special counsel Steven Tang described the deal as “significant transaction” that facilitates the founder’s exit “from the business which he had successfully built up over the last 17 years”.
“We are also excited to watch the further growth and development of UHE and UE and its people as part of the broader Oxford International Education Group”, he said.
Tang led the Maddocks team working on the transaction. He was supported by lawyer Nick Worth and development partner Bettina Sheeran, who tackled the leasing aspects, as well as by commercial partner Andrew Wright who handled the taxation aspects.
Corrs Chambers Westgarth and BDO provided advice to OIEG.
Universal Higher Education offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in areas responding to global labour shortages, especially in IT. Universal English provides a variety of English language courses.
Recently, Maddocks also advised Swoop Holdings Limited and Baron Group on sale deals.
