Melbourne-based workplace relations boutiques Justitia Lawyers and Consultants and Toop Workplace Law have merged to operate under the Justitia Lawyers and Consultants banner.

The combination was made official last Monday. Both firms were established and are led by women.

“For some time now, we have been looking to grow our presence in the industry, but we haven’t wanted to compromise on the values that make us who we are”, Justitia managing partner Melissa Scadden said. “So it is with much excitement that we announce this merger with Toop Workplace Law. Jess Toop and her team are not only excellent lawyers, more importantly they are wonderful people who share our vision of what this job can and should look like”.

Justitia focuses on sensitive and complex complaints, working with in-house HR and legal teams. It has mainly advised Victorian State government agencies, local government councils, large not-for-profits, and corporates. The firm also conducts workplace investigations and tackles child safety issues.

Meanwhile, Toop Workplace Law has largely worked with corporate clients across the professional services, health, transport and logistics, construction and engineering, technology, retail, and education sectors. The firm has tackled M&A, Fair Work Commission proceedings, due diligence, and privacy law.

Partner Jess Toop explained that the merger would increase Toop’s capacity and expand its range of services.

“What both Justitia and Toop Workplace Law have been able to demonstrate separately, and will now continue to demonstrate together, is that responsive client service and sustainable lawyering can go hand in hand and lead to better outcomes for everyone involved”, she said.

Justitia and Toop have both prioritised workplace flexibility to support staff members with children or other responsibilities.
