2021 In-house Legal Summit tackles what the future looks like for NZ in-house legal teams

The 2021 NZ In-house Legal Summit will tackle what the future looks like for in-house legal teams in New Zealand.

Star in-house lawyers will look at what’s on the horizon when it comes to current trends, antitrust laws and tech innovations in several panels throughout the day-long event.

In a panel moderated by Juno Legal director and event chair Helen Mackay, NZ Post senior legal counsel Dr Maria Pozza, Lion New Zealand & Little World Beverages GC Jono Willis and Sharesies GC Natalie Bryant will talk about the recent key legal trends and challenges relating to extraterritorial jurisdictions. The discussion will cover the following:

  • remaining compliant and upholding ethics for the GDPR
  • recent trends in the acceleration of ESG regulation and how it affects risks and opportunities
  • reviewing developments in Modern Slavery laws in NZ and the potential implications for in-house counsel

“As in-house counsel, one of our core functions is to keep up-to-date with overseas laws that may impact our organisations,” Pozza tells NZ Lawyer. “These are the types of issues that need to be on all in-house counsel radars, and this session promises to offer much insight into the development, lessons learned along the way, and overarching compliance requirements.”

Pozza highlighted the value of the event for in-house lawyers.

“The in-house legal summit provides a great opportunity for in-house counsel to network and talk about current legal issues and topics. This year’s conference is going to be another fantastic opportunity for counsel to do just that!” she says.

The NZ In-house Legal Summit will be held as a virtual event on 16 November. James & Wells sponsors the summit, which will also feature speakers from Bank of New Zealand, Sky TV, McDonald’s, Foodstuffs, Airways New Zealand and NZME, as well as from leading law firms Lane Neave and Russell McVeagh.
