In the new role, Andrew Cordner concentrates on team culture, connection, and development
Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited director of legal Andrew Cordner has joined Te Whatu Ora as chief legal counsel, according to the New Zealand Law Society.
Cordner stepped into the new role at the end of August. He expressed his intent to maintain a focus on team culture, connection, and development.
He described the transition to Te Whatu Ora as “a chance to provide a significant contribution to the development of a system that cares for all New Zealanders.”

“We are all going to be touched by the health system at some stage in our lives and this is the chance to contribute to the development of something significant, on a scale we rarely see. I’m excited to be playing my part in that,” he said in a statement published by the New Zealand Law Society.
Cordner joined Fonterra in 2007 and became its director of legal in 2016. He went on to be recognised among NZ Lawyer’s In-house Leaders for four years straight and was honoured as a Most Influential Lawyer from 2021-2023. He also served as a judge for the 2022 NZ Law Awards, where the Fonterra legal team also secured the Russell McVeagh In-house Team of the Year award.
Cordner has been part of the NZLS National Standards Committee for five years.
