Hong Kong lawyer awarded for 50 years of service
Robin Peard, senior consultant at Mayer Brown SJM, has been awarded with a Certificate of Recognition for 50 years as a solicitor on the Hong Kong roll.
The award was made by the Law Society of Hong Kong for his tremendous contribution to the legal profession and to the practice of law especially in the development of arbitration law in Hong Kong.

Former eBay GC rejoins Cooley
The former general counsel, senior vice-president and secretary of eBay has re-joined Cooley.
Mike Jacobson left the IP-focused firm in 1998 to take up what he called a “one in a lifetime opportunity” to head up the online auction site’s legal department.
He returns to what has become a global law firm in the two decades since he left his role as head of its public securities practice.

Insurance practice boosted at HFW
The insurance and reinsurance practice of Holman Fenwick Willan has been boosted by the hire of former director of the Hong Kong Insurance Law Association Rosie Ng as a consultant in Hong Kong.
She specialises in advising insurers and reinsurers, run-off agents and intermediaries on all aspects of insurance and reinsurance dispute resolution and has also advised insurers on policy wording and product development.

City law firm founder honoured by the Queen, but not for law
A prominent lawyer in the City of London has been awarded the OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. However, it was not for his services to the legal profession.
Ian Rosenblatt, who founded the firm that bears his name in 1989, was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to music.
The Law Society Gazette reports that Rosenblatt’s musical philanthropy includes sponsoring London’s only series of world-class opera recitals and saving a local music shop from closure.
