Hannah Yang will be making her way to Harvard Law School
A law student is among the nine awardees of this year’s Georgetti Scholarship.
Hannah Yang, 28, will be heading to Harvard Law School to further her research on the foundations of legislative and judicial authority, the influence of New Zealand’s unique history on these justifications, and its implications for incorporating the Treaty into New Zealand law.
Yang obtained a joint Bachelor of Arts and Laws (Hons) degree from the University of Auckland in 2019. She also received the Ethel Benjamin Scholarship and a Knox Fellowship.
The other scholarship awardees are Jennifer Berry, Kate Hooper, Stella Ivory, Sonesavanh Larnkham, Maddy Nash, Juliette Phillipson, Jean-Louise Roberts and Crissy Sanders.
The Georgetti Scholarship enables qualified students to pursue postgraduate study either domestically or internationally. This year marks 81 years since the award’s inception.
“Every year I am struck by the calibre of candidates interviewed and this year was no different. I am delighted to see these nine young scholars being recognised for their innovative and essential research that will have long-term benefits for Aotearoa New Zealand’s social, cultural and economic development”, Universities New Zealand’s Scholarships Chair Professor Duncan McGillivray said.
