US Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has been hit with more allegations of past improprieties.
Over the weekend, The New York Times published an essay in its opinion section that detailed two more incidents of alleged inappropriate behaviour involving Kavanaugh. The piece is adapted from a new book, called The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation, written by Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, who are Times reporters.
The piece said that at least seven people have heard about an alleged incident that was related last year by Deborah Ramirez at Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing in the US Senate. Kavanaugh denied that the incident happened.
“At least seven people, including Ms. Ramirez’s mother, heard about the Yale incident long before Mr. Kavanaugh was a federal judge. Two of those people were classmates who learned of it just days after the party occurred, suggesting that it was discussed among students at the time,” the story said.
The Yale incident allegedly happened during a “drunken dormitory party,” in which the justice exposed himself to Ramirez, who was a fellow Yale freshman at the time. He is said to have “pulled down his pants and thrust his penis at her, prompting her to swat it away and inadvertently touch it.”
The story said that several onlookers, who had earlier been passing around a fake penis, laughed.
The Times story also said that another former Yale classmate, Max Stier, said that he saw Kavanaugh with his pants down at a different party, where friends pushed his penis into the hand of a female student.
The publication later updated the story to point out that the female student refused to be interviewed for the book and that friends told the authors that the student does not recall the incident.
The story has prompted several Democratic presidential candidates to call for the Kavanaugh’s impeachment. Among those calling for the impeachment were Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.
“These newest revelations are disturbing,” Warren tweeted. “Like the man who appointed him, Kavanaugh should be impeached.”
Harris said that he sat through Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing and that the justice “lied to the US Senate and most importantly to the American people.”
“He was put on the court through a sham process and his place on the court is an insult to the pursuit of truth and justice,” she said. “He must be impeached.”
