NZ Law Awards 2024 to celebrate the best law firm employers

The law firms who have done the most for their people – among other key players within the legal profession also in the running for this year’s New Zealand Law Awards – will take centre stage at the ceremony this November.

The shortlist for this year’s excellence awardees includes boutique and specialist law firms, mid-sized and large law firms, private practitioners, in-house lawyers and legal teams, and service providers who have stood out from the rest of their peers within New Zealand’s legal market.

The ceremony will also highlight significant achievements within the legal industry, such as deals and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

“The awards serve as a benchmark for excellence, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and setting high standards for the industry,” says Alana Ashe, general manager of operations for LEAP Legal Software NZ, event partner.

Ashe adds that attendance at the ceremony will present “a valuable opportunity for networking and collaboration, which is essential for the growth and development of the legal community in New Zealand.”

Law firm employer excellence

Among the 24 different award categories, the following hone in on law firms that have distinguished themselves as exceptional employers in the legal industry: the Fluid Legal Recruitment Employer of Choice (<100 Lawyers) and the Realaml Employer of Choice (>100 Lawyers).

The factors considered to narrow down the candidates into a shortlist and to ultimately select the winners included the firms’ performance in terms of employee engagement and retention, diversity and inclusion, remuneration and benefits, training and development, leadership, reward and recognition, and work-life balance within the relevant period.

“Delighted that Fluid Legal Recruitment are once again sponsoring the Employer of Choice (<100 Lawyers) award at the NZ Law Awards 2024,” says Alex Stones, branch manager at Fluid Legal Recruitment.

Stones calls the upcoming ceremony an “incredible occasion to appreciate the efforts and commitment made from the very best in the industry.”

“Realaml is honoured to sponsor the Employer of Choice (>100 Lawyers) category, celebrating New Zealand law firms excelling in employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, work-life balance, professional development and more on the 28th of November,” says Jordan Leroy McCown, chief executive officer at Realaml.

Another award category is the Diversity & Inclusion Initiative of the Year, which looks into the concrete efforts of firms, as well as in-house legal teams, to promote diversity and inclusion within the legal profession.

The 2024 NZ Law Awards winners will be announced at a black-tie gala ceremony on 28 November at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland. Urzila Carlson, comedy star, will host the event. The venue will open for networking and drinks at 7pm. The awards ceremony will begin at 7:30pm. Please click here to book a table.

NZ Lawyer would like to give special thanks to the following for supporting the event and the recognition of legal excellence: event partner LEAP Legal Software; award sponsors LexisNexis, Chisholm Clarke, Realaml, Robert Walters, Fluid Legal Recruitment, James & Wells, Russell McVeagh, and Baker Tilly Staples Rodway; and champagne sponsor Artemis Executive Recruitment.
