NZ Law Awards 2024 to spotlight the best within the in-house legal profession

In-house legal teams and lawyers will be in the spotlight – along with others in the legal profession who have been shortlisted for this year’s New Zealand Law Awards – this coming November.

Also in the running to be named excellence awardees for 2024 are a selection of boutique and specialist law firms, mid-sized and large law firms, private practice lawyers, and service providers who have distinguished themselves within New Zealand’s legal market.

“The NZ Law Awards are a cornerstone event for the legal profession because they provide a platform to recognise and celebrate exceptional achievements and innovations within the industry,” says Alana Ashe, general manager of operations for LEAP Legal Software NZ, event partner.

“They not only honour the hard work and dedication of legal professionals but also highlight the evolving trends and standards in legal practice,” Ashe adds.

In-house recognition

Among the 24 different award categories, the following focus on the achievements of outstanding legal professionals within the in-house realm: the Young In-House Lawyer of the Year (35 or under) and the James & Wells In-House Lawyer of the Year.

Tim Walden, managing partner at James & Wells, congratulates all of this year’s excellence awardees. “James & Wells is delighted to sponsor the In-House Lawyer of the Year award at the 2024 New Zealand Law Awards,” Walden says.

The awards will also recognise exceptional in-house legal teams in the following categories: the Financial Services In-House Team of the Year, the Energy In-House Team of the Year, and the Russell McVeagh In-House Team of the Year.

Jo Avenell, chief executive officer at Russell McVeagh, is looking forward to the upcoming ceremony, which will be recognising the exceptionally high calibre of work of the shortlisted in-house legal teams.

“We are proud to support and recognise the hard mahi and commitment to excellence of in-house legal teams from some of Aotearoa's most forward-thinking organisations recognised as finalists,” Avenell says.

The 2024 NZ Law Awards winners will be announced at a black-tie gala ceremony on 28 November at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland. Urzila Carlson, comedy star, will host the event. The venue will open for networking drinks at 7pm. The awards ceremony will start at 7:30pm. Please click here to book a table.
