Lane Neave has appointed Ellen Sewell as partner in Christchurch and Maggie Chang as special counsel in Auckland. These two senior additions to the firm’s national corporate team raise that team’s headcount to 22.

With Sewell’s appointment, Lane Neave now has 25 partners, including seven offering specialist corporate and banking and finance law advice, across its four offices.

“We remain in focused growth mode, adding to the reach and capability of our teams to better service our growing client base,” said Andrew Shaw, Lane Neave managing partner, in the firm’s news release.

Lane Neave, a national full-service firm, recently acquired Clendons, a boutique business and commercial law firm in Auckland. The team from Clendons has joined the firm’s Auckland office.

“High-calibre specialists deliver high-calibre outcomes for our clients and these two appointments are certainly technically outstanding,” Shaw added in the news release.

Corporate law experience

“I am particularly delighted to welcome Ellen back to Lane Neave,” Shaw said in the news release. “She was previously an integral part of our corporate team for almost five years, and she’s returned to Lane Neave with even deeper expertise in this specialist legal area.”

Ellen Sewell was previously a partner at another national firm. Her legal experience, which is broad and extensive, includes M&A, joint ventures, front-end construction contracts, information technology, and general commercial contracts.

“We’re thrilled to welcome her back and to recognise her drive and capability by having her join the partnership in Christchurch,” Shaw added in the news release.

Maggie Chang’s experience spans senior legal roles in both private practice and in-house realms. She has worked in firms in New Zealand and Australia, including as a partner in a trans-Tasman firm. As an in-house lawyer, she was involved in the pharmaceutical industry.

“Maggie is extremely well qualified and now boasts more than 13 years of specialist experience,” Shaw said in the news release.

Chang has experience and interest in private M&A and in the early-stage, venture capital space.

“She has a very strong client service focus which will serve her and our clients well as she evolves the next stage of her career at Lane Neave,” Shaw added in the news release.
