Barry Nilsson (BN) has promoted 27 and hired a new principal.

Maya Sen joins the firm after a stint as a practice director at a Sydney-based family law firm. She has over two decades of experience, having worked on complex financial cases involving high-net-worth individuals, family company and trust structures, and valuation issues.

According to BN, she has a particular interest in the international aspects of family law disputes, such as international relocation, child abduction, and global cross-jurisdictional disputes.

Nonetheless, Sen is not the sole new principal on BN’s team – Jacob Luca and Matt Hempstead were elevated to the role in the firm’s latest promotions round.

Luca is a specialist in personal injury litigation. He has tackled public liability, motor vehicle accident claims and workers’ compensation claims.

He has worked with commercial and statutory insurers on novel indemnity points, high quantum claims, and complex multi-defendant proceedings. He is an expert in matters involving Medical Panel referrals under the Wrongs Act 1958 and the Accident Compensation Act 1985; he is also knowledgeable in the American Medical Association Guides.

Hempstead is an accredited family law specialist who has handled issues involving property, domestic violence, child support, and spousal maintenance. He has a particular interest in complex property and parenting matters.

With three additions, the total number of principals at the firm jumps to 41.

“In addition to their advanced technical ability, high standard of client service, and strong contribution to client relationship development, Jacob and Matt are being recognised for the leadership qualities they’ve upheld within their individual roles and practice areas, and as part of our wider BN team,” former BN chair Rhett Kennedy said.
