The agreement involves the establishment of a first-of-its-kind children cancer care facility
Clayton Utz has assisted the Children's Cancer Institute pro bono in negotiating and entering into an agreement for lease with UNSW Sydney in relation to a section of the upcoming Minderoo Children's Comprehensive Cancer Centre (MCCCC).
Under the agreement, the MCCCC’s dry labs, office and meeting spaces in the UNSW Health Translation Hub (UNSW HTH) will be delivered and leased to the Children’s Cancer Institute. The MCCCC is set to be the first facility of its kind in Australia, consolidating the efforts of the Children's Cancer Institute, Kids Cancer Centre (part of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network) and UNSW.
Moreover, UNSW Sydney is contributing $32m in-kind to the MCCCC as part of the agreement. The broader project is being delivered by Health Infrastructure in collaboration with the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, Children’s Cancer Institute, and UNSW Sydney. John Holland is the principal contractor.
The MCCCC is intended to be a fully integrated comprehensive cancer centre located within Stage 1 of the new Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick and the adjoining UNSW HTH). Following the completion of the two structures, the MCCCC will have wet and dry laboratories, education, training and research spaces, new oncology inpatient units, patient and family-focused retreat areas and a new day oncology centre.
“It was a privilege to work with the team at CCIA on this vital project. Every child deserves the best that life has to offer, including access to world class facilities and amenities when the unthinkable happens. This is a small way our team can help to make a difference”, Clayton Utz lead partner Eva Oraham said.
Oraham led Clayton Utz’s team in working on the deal alongside special counsels Ben Pierce and Angus Roy.
