DLA Piper advises Senex Energy on Commonwealth environment approvals

Global law firm DLA Piper has advised energy company Senex Energy regarding Commonwealth environmental approvals for the Atlas to Reedy (ARC) Creek Pipeline and Atlas Stage 3 Project.

The ARC Pipeline in Queensland has recently been approved by the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water.

Following this development, the energy firm also received an approval for the development and operation of its Atlas Stage 3 Project in the Surat Basin under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

“DLA Piper deployed a multi-disciplinary team of experts who assisted Senex Energy on environmental, contractual, risk and stakeholder related matters,” said Tom Fotheringham, partner, projects

The DLA Piper team who was involved throughout the endeavour consisted of Alex Jones, global co-chair, energy & natural resources, DLA Piper and Fotheringham with the assistance of Jack Brumpton, partner, projects, Laura Nagy, special counsel, litigation, and regulatory, Jade Nelson, special counsel, projects, Lisa Huynh, senior associate, projects, and Mariko Hunt, solicitor, projects.

The ARC Pipeline will be transporting natural gas that is produced in the Surat Basin which is located near Wandoan, Queensland. This includes the Atlas Stage 3 Project and is part of a $1 billion investment plan by the energy firm, which seeks to boost the domestic gas supply to the east coast market.

“The pipeline and related projects will support local businesses, while creating hundreds of jobs and enabling more reliable energy supply,” said Fotheringham.

“This significant mandate was a strong demonstration of our capacity to navigate complex infrastructure projects,” said Jones.
