The newly promoted lawyers take up their new posts on 1 January
Eight have been promoted to partner at Clayton Utz.
Will Atfield, Yvette Fenton, Sam Fiddian, Vincent Giang, Sean Kelly, Gareth Oxley, Wendy Rees, and Sian Ooi take up their new roles on 1 January.
Atfield has been part of the commercial litigation team in Melbourne since 2015. He focuses on defending class actions and on complex litigation, in addition to tackling regulatory investigations and disputes. He has worked with clients in the pharmaceuticals, medical devices, automotive, and consumer goods sectors.
Operating from Perth, Fenton joined Clayton Utz’s commercial litigation team in 2012. She concentrates on complex disputes involving multiple stakeholders as well as insurance disputes. She has worked on matters involving major mining assets in WA and across Australia.
Also working with the commercial litigation team, Fiddian commenced with the firm as a graduate in 2012. He has worked with clients in the mining, energy and resources, health, and fintech and regtech sectors. He has also handled contentious and non-contentious IP, technology and privacy matters.
Giang joined the commercial litigation team in Sydney in 2021. His practice is focused on class actions, complex disputes, investigations, remediations and contentious regulatory and compliance matters (including large scale remediation programs). His clients have included Australian and international entities, boards and senior executives, who he has guided through major and high-profile business interruption events.
Kelly became part of the major projects and construction team in Melbourne in 2017. He is an expert in handling energy transition and resources projects, major transport infrastructure as well as social infrastructure projects. He has worked with Australian and international project owners, contractors and engineering firms, and government departments and agencies.
Ooi is part of the competition team in Sydney. She specialises in issues involving third-party access, economic regulatory and competition law. She has worked with clients in the aviation, ports, energy, rail, water, and telecommunications spaces.
Oxley started his career at Clayton Utz in 2009 as part of the major projects and construction team in Brisbane. He rejoined the firm in 2017 after a stint in London, bringing experience in handling matters involving major construction and infrastructure projects. He has a particular focus on transport and energy infrastructure, and is also an expert in tackling issues related to collaborative contracting methods.
Melbourne-based Rees works with the major projects and construction team. She advises government and private clients on the delivery of projects in the rail, precincts, renewable energy, oil and gas, resources and telecommunications sectors. She has also handled complex procurements, collaborative and traditional delivery models, structuring, management of key stakeholders and supply, operations and maintenance arrangements.
