Jocelyn Connick has served as FCWA registrar since 2018
Attorney General John Quigley has announced the promotion of seasoned registrar Jocelyn Connick to the role of magistrate within the Family Court of Western Australia (FCWA).
Currently serving as a registrar at the FCWA, Connick will transition to her new position as a magistrate on 30 October. Connick was admitted to practice in Western Australia in 1990 and has been an FWCA registrar since 2018.
Throughout her extensive career, Connick held significant roles that shaped her expertise. She served as a supervising solicitor at Legal Aid WA, providing counsel and representation to clients dealing with complex family law matters. Her role also involved training and managing other lawyers.
Connick's legal journey extends to pivotal positions within Western Australia's legal landscape. She spent two years as a solicitor at the WA Corruption and Crime Commission, gaining insights into complex legal challenges. She also served for one year as a state prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Within the FCWA, Connick's responsibilities as a registrar expanded her family law experience. Her contributions as a registrar spanned diverse areas, including overseeing divorce and consent order lists and facilitating conciliation and conferences. Connick also contributed to a family violence and property disputes research project in her capacity as a Law Access Stakeholder Advisory committee member.
Connick's expertise in family law is further reinforced by her accreditation as a nationally accredited mediator in 2020.
Quigley expressed excitement at Connick's appointment as a magistrate to preside at the FWCA. Quigley commended Connick's capabilities, highlighting her valuable exposure to complex legal issues about family law, including child-related and property matters, at Legal Aid WA. Furthermore, Quigley underscored Connick's subsequent experience as a registrar, which deepened her family law expertise.
"She is a highly experienced registrar and solicitor who will enhance the court's capacity to administer complex cases. I wish Ms Connick well in her new position," Quigley said.
