He will continue to act as mayor of Town of Cambridge, Perth
The Law Society of Western Australia has announced that Gary Mack, currently its senior vice president, will be serving as its president-elect for 2025, effective 1 January.
Mack will continue to be mayor of the Town of Cambridge in Perth. He is an independent children’s lawyer and family dispute resolution practitioner.
Nominations for the one-year term closed on 8 October, with Mack as the sole nominee. In a media release of the organisation, he shared that he was looking forward to serving in this position. He will be replacing Paula Wilkinson, who has held the role since January.
“I applaud Paula for her strength and courage as a strong advocate for a number of social justice issues during her tenure, including the very important issue of child detention in WA,” Mack said in the media release. “I will continue to speak out, on behalf of our members, on important issues as they arise.”
Wilkinson expressed confidence that Mack could easily take over her former role. “I am delighted for Gary, who has proved himself to be a first-class advocate and lawyer,” Wilkinson said in the media release. “I know the Law Society’s voice will continue to be heard on important topics on which we will be advocating ahead of the upcoming State election, and for the rest of 2025.”
The Law Society’s new chief executive officer is yet to be chosen. David Price, the previous CEO, resigned after over 18 years in the role.
“David is extremely well connected in the profession and my job will be to make sure his replacement is integrated well across all those networks, and with law societies across the country,” Mack said in the media release.
