The High Court has thrown out Bob Day’s challenge to a new senate voting law.
The new law, changing the rules for voting above and below the line, targets preference deals which help micro parties and independents win senate seats.
Day challenged the law, saying it is unconstitutional and would disenfranchise voters who do not want to vote for a major party, the ABC reported.
The Commonwealth told the court this morning, that Day had taken a too narrow view of the constitution and ruled that the parliament has the power to make the new law.
