Sarah Byrne served as GC for a number of government departments and agencies
Holding Redlich has appointed Sarah Byrne as a new partner in its Canberra office.
Byrne has worked in government for three decades, gleaning experience from departments and agencies at the state and Commonwealth levels. She is a specialist in all aspects of government and administrative law, having handled matters involving statutory interpretation, administrative appeals, and legislation development.
She has advised on the making of decisions under legislation, as well as tackled issues related to research ethics, workplace, fraud and misconduct investigations. She has experience as a mediator and has assisted in conducting reviews of government structures, processes, and programs, Holding Redlich said.
Byrne has served as GC in the Commonwealth Department of Finance, the Department of Families and Community Services, and the Australian Medical Association. She was also ACT Public Advocate and deputy CEO of the ACT Justice & Community Safety Directorate.
Her clients include the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, the Department of Health, the Department of Social Services, the Department of Defence, the Australian Digital Health Agency, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Moreover, she held senior executive roles in policy and corporate.
Before joining Holding Redlich, Byrne was principal advisor and public law lead at a national NewLaw firm.
