HopgoodGanim absorbs family and estates boutique

HopgoodGanim has announced a merger with Perth family and estates law firm, Butlers Lawyers and Notaries (Butlers).

The combination is set to be completed in October, with HopgoodGanim taking on 17 staff members from Butlers including managing principal John Lawley and principal John Butler.

Lawley, who will commence with HopgoodGanim as a partner, is set to lead the Butlers team joining HopgoodGanim. Butler will serve as a consultant, helping to facilitate the transition.

The addition of the Butlers team is expected to bolster HopgoodGanim’s ability to cater to high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and large family-owned and privately held businesses. For over three decades, Butlers has offered family law, wills, and estate services in Perth.

“Though we currently have a sizeable team in Perth, we have been seeking to expand our private client practice in the West for many years. The merger with Butlers will allow us to achieve this and offer our full suite of legal expertise on both east and west coasts”, HopgoodGanim managing partner Luke Mountford said.

He added that Butler is set to retire in 2027.

“Mr Butler has earned his place in the merged firm as a consultant, recognising 50 years of service. He is a well-respected member of the legal profession in Western Australia, and for him, this merger is an opportunity to ensure his legacy and firm continue to grow under HopgoodGanim’s capable management”, Mountford said.
