HSF welcomes three new partners in China

Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has welcomed three new partners in China, bolstering the firm’s projects and projects disputes expertise.

Hew Kian Heong, Ellen Zhang, and Michelle Lee have commenced with HSF’s Greater China team. All three partners come from Pinsent Masons.

The firm says that the new appointments show its ongoing investment in its China business and its response to demand from Chinese clients for international projects and projects disputes lawyers, particularly for “Belt and Road” transactions.

Heong is known in China for his international construction and infrastructure disputes expertise. He regularly acts for Chinese and international clients in complex cross-border disputes.

Zhang is a specialist in Chinese public-private partnerships, as well as outbound investment. She acts for Chinese companies in overseas project development, investment, and financing, particularly in the power and infrastructure sectors.

Li is an expert in construction and infrastructure disputes. She has particular focus on working with Chinese state-owned enterprises on project implementation issues and disputes related to overseas projects.

The appointments boost the firm’s Greater China practice to 27 partners. HSF now has more than 170 legal professionals in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
