Kain Lawyers has scooped up Nick Brown, the former national head of PwC Australia’s legal business, as its newest director.

Brown concentrates on M&A, private equity, capital raising and corporate transactions. He has tackled deals in the retail, automotive, industrial, agricultural, technology and energy sectors.

He has helped to implement equity incentive arrangements for domestic and foreign listed and unlisted companies. Recently, he played a role in Waterco’s acquisition of Davey Water Pumps; he also advised Diamond Energy’s shareholders on the company’s sale to Energy Bay.

In addition to leading PwC Australia’s legal business, Brown was also an M&A partner with the firm. He has also worked with SJ Berwin in London.

Kain Lawyers managing director John Kain indicated that Brown’s appointment would strengthen the firm’s transactions offering. Brown will operate from Kain Lawyers’ new Melbourne office at 55 Collins Street.

“In the past five years, we have successfully closed over 300 deals totalling more than $10bn. Many of these deals have been based in Melbourne, so our Melbourne office will enable us to better serve our existing clients in this critical capital market”, Kain said.

Brown will be working alongside director Jeremy Collins, who made the move to Kain Lawyers from Gadens earlier this year.
