Law Council of Australia reveals members of its Executive for 2022

The Law Council of Australia has revealed members of its Executive for 2022.

Tass Liveris has been named president of the council, with Luke Murphy as president-elect and Greg McIntyre as treasurer. Executive members include Juliana Warner, Elizabeth Carroll, and Elizabeth Shearer.

Among the 2021 Law Council’s accomplishments former president Jacoba Brasch QC would like Liveris to carry over to his term are the enforcement of national security laws and extended legal assistance to rural, regional, and remote areas.

“Incoming President Mr. Tass Liveris and the 2022 Executive are passionately committed to building on this work,” Brasch said. “Tass is a highly experienced barrister who has vigorously represented our profession for many years as both the president of Law Society Northern Territory and a director and treasurer of the Law Council.”
In turn, Liveris thanked Brasch for her unwavering dedication to advancing the public good and the interests of the profession.
“We are grateful to Dr. Brasch for her commitment, vision and leadership in 2021. Dr. Brasch has achieved significant gains in many important areas this year, despite the ongoing challenges brought about by the pandemic, and the Law Council will continue to build on this momentum,” Liveris said.
With the backing of the Law Council, Liveris also promised to pursue the long-standing issues of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander incarceration rates and the minimum age of criminal responsibility.
“We will continue to focus on the health and wellbeing of all members of our profession; innovation and technology; and addressing unmet legal need, particularly in rural, regional and remote Australia,” Liveris said.
