National specialist firm Davies Collison Cave will be broadening their predominately IP practice to Singapore later this year.
With a strong IP practice, the firm said launching in Singapore is a natural progression, with Singapore top ranked in Asia for IP protection. The move marks the first international play for the firm.
“DCC has an enviable reputation for the quality of its patent drafting, prosecution and advice skills,” said managing partner, Leon Allen. “With the Singapore government actively fostering investment and innovation by both Singapore and foreign interests, we believe there is a strong market for our services in Singapore and the rest of Asia.”
Allen said that the strength of Singapore as an IP hub will provide a growing number of opportunities for the firm’s IP practice.
“We see expansion into Asia as a natural progression as our firm continues to grow and move forward,” he said. “The Singapore government is committed to establishing Singapore as an ASEAN IP hub. Its IP Hub Master Plan is designed to capitalise on the attractiveness of Singapore as a place to do business in Asia. All the indications are that Singapore is the best location from which to build.”
The firm plans to open the new office in the second half of this year, providing patent drafting and patent and design filing and prosecution services to local and international clients.
“We will consolidate our position in Singapore by developing a strong client base as well as actively recruiting locally and training new staff whilst carefully monitoring other possible opportunities within the region,” said Allen.
