She has held senior legal roles in various organisations and advised executive leaders
Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) has brought in former Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) chief GC Lucinda McCann as a new financial services partner.
McCann comes in with over 25 years of experience handling transactional and advisory work. She has advised executives and boards in government and regulatory, financial services and corporate.
While at APRA, she oversaw a team of lawyers and enforcement professionals in handling licensing, supervision, enforcement and policy development to resolution, data collection, procurement, whistleblowers, integrity and risk and compliance matters. She worked with the organisation’s chair, deputy chair and other executive board members, as well as the executive directors heading up the six divisions in APRA.
Prior to joining APRA, McCann recorded a stint with AMP Limited, where she was financial products and solutions legal head, financial services GC, and GC for Australian wealth management and bank legal according to LinkedIn. She was also a senior legal counsel at AMP Capital Investors and a partner at Henry Davis York.
“The financial services industry is facing a time of unprecedented challenges, including an increasingly complex regulatory environment, the need to transform business through technological innovation and the impact of ESG”, NRF CEP Alison Deitz said. “Lucinda’s wealth of experience gained through the significant roles she has undertaken will be invaluable to global and domestic clients in the banking, superannuation, insurance, funds, government and wealth sectors as they seek to navigate these challenges”.
Operating from Sydney, McCann will collaborate with funds and financial services partner Liz Hastilow.
“There are tremendous opportunities in Australia’s superannuation sector in particular, which continues to grow in size and significance and is subject to ongoing legislative reform and scrutiny”, McCann said. “With more than two decades’ experience advising executives and boards of government, regulatory, financial services, and corporate organisations, I feel uniquely placed to offer valuable insights and advice to our clients in Australia and around the world”.
Earlier this month, NRF also welcomed Kristina Mihalic to its Canberra office as a public law partner.
Mihalic has represented the Commonwealth government, federal ministers and Commonwealth officers in the High Court, Federal Court and Federal Circuit Court, as well as various state courts and administrative tribunals, for more than 15 years. She is experienced in handling matters involving administrative law and statutory interpretation, as well as significant Royal Commission/public inquiries.
She has advised on statutory regimes and legislative interpretation, freedom of information and privacy issues, and administrative decision making matters. She has also acted for clients in judicial review and merit review matters in courts and tribunals.
“Kristina’s appointment highlights the growing momentum we are building in our Canberra office and in the national government practice. We see significant opportunities to grow a holistic public law offering from an advisory perspective but also in strategic litigation. Adding Kristina, with her strong Commonwealth Government relationships and respected public law skillset, will allow us to offer greater value to our Commonwealth Government clients,” Deitz said.
