NRF pitches in on energy storage project sale to JV

Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) has assisted the Australian subsidiary of UK-based renewables company Renewable Energy Systems (RES) in relation to the sale of its 1GW Tallawang hybrid solar-battery energy storage project.

The project was acquired by Enel Green Power Australia (EGPA), a joint venture between Enel Green Power and INPEX Renewable Energy Australia Pty Ltd. It includes a 500MWac solar farm and a 500MW/1000MWh battery energy storage system, along with a 330 kV substation and switchyard.

The Tallawang Project is situated in the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ) designated by the NSW government. The site measures 1,300 hectares and is located about 8km northwest of Gulgong within the Mid-West Regional Council area.

The timeline for the project’s delivery will be in line with the CWO REZ transmission project, which is set to help connect at least 4.5GW of large-scale renewable energy facilities to the grid, NRF said.

NRF’s team has provided guidance on property, environment and planning, and connection workstreams since the project commenced. Following the sale, the firm will continue to support RES in these areas.

“We are thrilled to continue to be involved following [the project’s] divestment, facilitating a seamless integration of the project into EGPA’s Australian portfolio”, lead partner Kate Muller said.

Muller received support in working on the disposal transaction from partner Martin Irwin, senior associate Tarrant Sewell, associates Diarmuid O’Carroll and Edward McCombe, and lawyer Hannah Duke. The wider mandate saw contributions from partners Claire Forster, Jacqueline Plant, and Michael McKee, along with their respective teams.
