Obama tops survey of lawyers that people in the UK want to hire

Former US president Barack Obama topped a survey that asked people in the UK who they would most want to have as their lawyer.

The survey asked over 500 people across the UK which famous legal personality they would most want to hire for legal representation, according to the Journal of the Law Society of Scotland. Obama was the overwhelming favourite, winning 30% of the vote.  The late Nelson Mandela and former US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton were also popular choices, each garnering 10% of the vote.

On the other end of the scale, former British prime minister Tony Blair was voted as the personality who respondents would least want to have as their lawyer.

The survey also asked respondents what traits they would expect from a lawyer. Twenty-four percent answered that they want their lawyer to be “confident and committed.” Another 18% said they want their lawyer to be “helpful and capable.” Lastly, the survey revealed that only one in five respondents are likely to think of lawyers as being “arrogant and obnoxious.”
