Shaun Mortimer joins NSW Local Court as magistrate

Shaun Mortimer has joined the NSW Local Court as a magistrate.

He was sworn in this week. His appointment was applauded by the Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited (ALS).

“Shaun’s commitment to the law and to equality is self-evident. We thank him for his many years of service to the ALS and the communities we serve,” CEO Karly Warner said.

Mortimer started his legal career with the ALS in 2008 as a solicitor. He focused on criminal law at the organisation’s Dubbo office.

He eventually transitioned to a role as managing solicitor at the ALS Criminal Law Practice and then became a deputy principal solicitor. In 2022, he was named principal solicitor of the criminal law practice.

Mortimer was accredited as a criminal law specialist in 2013. He also represented the ALS on the NSW Law Society’s Indigenous Issues Committee.
