Slater and Gordon has appointed Katrina Pedersen as principal lawyer in its Queensland personal injuries practice.

Pedersen brings 30 years’ experience to the firm and has been given a leadership role in the Toowoomba, Ipswich, Townsville, and Brisbane area. She moved from Shine Lawyers, where she practised from 2009, most recently as a special counsel.

Karen Murphy, Slater and Gordon Queensland general manager, said that Pedersen is already utilising her experience and legal expertise to support clients and help them move forward with their lives. Pedersen said that this has been her motivation since she began her legal career decades ago.

“I became keen to study law, so I could make a difference and put myself through university while working full time and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1999,” Pedersen said. “I have worked mainly in compensation law for more than 20 years now and could not imagine doing anything else.”

She said that it is very rewarding to assist clients in achieving a fair and just outcome during what can be a very difficult time in their lives. Her approach to client service has been to know her clients, she said.

“I ensure I get to know them as people – more than just what’s happened to them, but what’s important to them,” she said. “I recognise that each client is unique in their own way and I strive to keep them informed at all times, so they feel valued and supported at all times throughout their claim.”
