David Price is the longest-serving current Law Society CEO in Australia
WA Law Society CEO David Price is stepping down after a historic term as the longest-serving current Law Society CEO in Australia.
Price’s tenure in the role clocks in at 18 years. He officially departs the WA Law Society in December. He will remain with the organisation to facilitate the transition to his successor before taking a period of leave to “consider future work projects”.
“David has worked quietly behind the scenes to elevate the Law Society to its current position of record membership numbers, with an unprecedented 87% of members saying they are either satisfied - or very satisfied - with how the Law Society is performing. He leaves us in great shape and I know I speak for all Council and committee participants, as well as our members, when I wish him the very best for his future”, Law Society President Paula Wilkinson said.
During Price’s term, he assisted 16 presidents of the organisation, including Wilkinson herself. Before he headed to the Law Society, he was CEO for local government authorities.
“The training that David had from his time in local government meant he brought excellent interpersonal skills, as well as an exceptional methodical management style - coupled with meticulous record keeping skills. The running of the Law Society totally changed, as a result”, said Dudley Stow, who was president of Law Society in 2006 when Price commenced as executive director.
The Law Society confirmed that they would kickstart the process of recruiting a new CEO immediately.
“I am extremely proud to have contributed to the growth of the Law Society to where it stands now, and it feels like the right time for me to deliver it into another pair of safe hands”, Price said. “I won’t be letting the grass grow under my feet, that’s for sure, but I have no firm plans at this stage – which makes a nice change”.
