Minter Ellison Rudd Watts has welcomed former Johnson Winter & Slattery partner, Michael Bywell, to the firm as a consultant in its TMT division.
A firm spokesperson says Bywell is particularly strong in the IT area, having acted on some of the world’s largest IT and outsourcing programmes over the past 20 years in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
“He has experience and expertise which is rare in the New Zealand and Australian markets,” said the spokesperson.
Bywell’s other experience includes advisory and dispute resolution work across a range of practice areas and sectors including arbitration, construction, energy and natural resources, international public law, IP, mediation, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications.
He returned to New Zealand, having worked overseas for many years, most recently as a partner at the leading Australian law firm.
“Michael’s appointment further strengthens our highly successful TMT team,” said Minter Ellison Rudd Watts chair,
Cathy Quinn.
“His international experience in the IT sector will provide our clients with access to the very best advice in an ever growing and complex sector.”
Bywell said the firm provides the “perfect” environment for his practice, given the Minter Ellison Rudd Watts’ ambitions in the TMT space.
“The firm is very well-placed to take on large-scale, complex IT and outsourcing matters in both the public and private sectors. The firm’s ethos and culture is impressive and well-suited to the clients I am accustomed to acting for.”
