APAC-based senior partner steps down at international firm

Jan Heuvels, international partner at Ince & Co, has stepped down from the role to focus on the firm’s Asia growth strategy.

Heuvels became senior partner in 2015 and in 2017 relocated from London to Hong Kong but he says that it’s time for a change.

“The time is right for me to pass on the leadership baton of the firm and I will continue to spearhead our Asia Growth Plan from Hong Kong. It has been an honour for me to lead Ince & Co since 2015 and I look forward to working closely with our new International Senior Partner following their appointment,” he said.

The search for a replacement will begin shortly but in the interim former senior partner Peter Rogan will oversee the ongoing leadership of the firm. Rogan was senior partner from 2000-2008 and has been appointed interim chairman of the board.

“On behalf of all our people I want to thank Jan for his commitment to leading Ince & Co over the last three years. As International Senior Partner he has successfully overseen the delivery of a number of strategically important initiatives that have significantly modernised the structure and working practices of our firm,” said Rogan.

Slater & Gordon to pursue Essure class action
A class action will be pursued against Bayer after hundreds of Australian women suffered complications when using its contraceptive device Essure.

Slater and Gordon says it will pursue the action and will consider whether the device was inherently defective.

“Essure was hailed as the new wave of contraceptive devices. Unlike traditional permanent contraceptive surgery, Essure was marketed as being fast, effective, and minimally invasive, it could be inserted in your doctor’s office,” said associate Ebony Birchall.

The class action is open to all women who have suffered complications as a result of having an Essure implant inserted in Australia.

Essure, recalled by Bayer in the US in July, is a permanent contraceptive implant comprised of a metal coil which expands to anchor the device in the fallopian tube.
