MinterEllisonRuddWatts (MERW) has helped the Crown’s development company working on the Christchurch Convention and Exhibition Centre with a milestone.
The firm has acted for Ōtākaro Limited, which last week awarded the design and construction contract for the development of the centre to CPB Contractors, which is owned by the Australian CIMIC Group. The company will build the centre, which is estimated to cost $240m.
MERW worked with Ōtākaro’s project team on all stages of the procurement process all the way to the award of the design and construct contract, which the firm led on the drafting on. It also led on crafting the various consultancy agreements, which have been novated to CPB.
Expected to open in early 2020, or more than two years behind initial estimates, the centre will feature a 1,400-delegate auditorium, a banquet hall, 14 meeting rooms, and an exhibition hall for up to 200 stalls. It is part of the Christchurch Rebuild program.
"The [centre] is an important cornerstone project in the heart of the city with significant economic benefit, helping to attract more visitors and investment to the city," said
Sarah Sinclair, MERW construction partner. "The project has a number of stakeholders and interested parties and we were able to draw on the experience of our team who have advised, and continue to advise, on Christchurch’s anchor projects.”
The MERW team was led by partner Sinclair and senior associate Vimal Nair.
