Brittany Amos is a solicitor with Kensington Swan’s property team. She takes five to tell us about her public transport problems and why she became a lawyer.
What made you decide to become a lawyer?
I remember being inspired at an early age by my aunty who had a legal career. At high school I really enjoyed English, geography, history, debating and just generally performing. When I was deciding what to pursue at university, law seemed to correspond well with those subjects.
How long have you worked at Kensington Swan and what brought you to that position?
Nearly two years. I summer clerked for Kensington Swan over the summer before my final year of university, and was fortunate to receive the offer of a role as a law graduate.
If you could invite three people for dinner, dead or alive and excluding family and friends, who would they be and why?
Anne Boleyn, Lord Denning and Joan Rivers. Anne Boleyn because she led such an interesting life during a time of political and religious upheaval. I found studying this era fascinating at high school. Lord Denning because he was such an inspirational lawyer and judge. I am certain that his conversation would be as interesting as his judgments. Joan Rivers because she was a very funny lady, and I am sure she would keep us all entertained!
You’re based in Auckland/Wellington – where’s the best place to go for a drink and/or dinner after work?
The new Wynyard Quarter development is fantastic. There’s a range of new restaurants just a five-minute walk away from our offices. Baduzzi and Miss Clawdy are both good options.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given (work or personal)?
Best professional advice: never make assumptions and always ask questions if you are unsure.
Do you have any hobbies/interests outside of work?
On Tuesday nights in winter you will find me on the indoor netball courts playing for the KS team. The social club also recently signed up for ‘turbo touch’ over the summer. I think my enthusiasm makes up for my ability!
We are currently painting in the interior of our house so I have recently become interested in interior decorating.

Do all that I could to improve public transport in Auckland.
What do you love about your job?
I get a buzz from finding a commercially savvy solution to a problem that a client has raised.
I have a great team. They encourage me to take every opportunity that is available and involve me in work that I find interesting and challenging.
What would you change about your job right now if you could?
Better public transport to and from work!
