With the long hours and big demands of the legal profession, many lawyers would admit it’s hard to find time to spend in the kitchen – let alone appear on Masterchef and write a cookbook.
But James & Wells partner Kate Wilson has done just that.
Now the Hamilton-based lawyer is ready to put law on the back-burner and bring her love of food, wine and the arts to the fore.
A recent empty nester, Wilson believes the time is right for both herself and the firm to retire from the James & Wells partnership.
“There is no doubt that I will miss working with the friends I have made over the years – both staff and clients,” she said.
“I could only do so by being comfortable that James & Wells is in excellent heart, and its people have the depth of experience and talent to ensure the firm continues to thrive,” she says.
To ensure a smooth transition, Wilson will remain with James & Wells until the end of March 2016, and will also consult to the firm after that.
She joined the firm at the tender age of 22, armed also with physics and chemistry degrees.
A registered patent attorney in Australia and New Zealand, she has collected many international accolades over her 28 years with the firm.
