Hannah Bain now leads the firm's climate change offering
Hannah Bain first got into climate change as a personal cause. When the Russell McVeagh special counsel relocated to London in early 2016, she found herself taking the threat of climate change “really seriously”.
Bain began to focus on the issue “in a new way” as she travelled and met a variety of people. She also heeded the “increasingly alarming warnings” being presented by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Today, Bain is leading the charge on climate change at Russell McVeagh, where she is playing a pivotal role in the firm’s partnership with Te Whakahaere.
“The traditional role of law firms has been changing for a while. Clients now see the services that law firms can provide as extending beyond advice on the application of the law to include a wider suite of strategic services”, she explained.
“In the climate space, the importance of the topic to businesses, combined with the specialist nature of the subject and its interaction with numerous other disciplines, meant that we saw an opportunity to broaden our offering by partnering with an experienced non-legal climate consultancy”.
Under the alliance, Russell McVeagh is able to offer clients joint instruction on climate change-related matters, providing the benefit of “combined legal and consultancy expertise in this fast-moving and complex area”.
Hannah Bain goes into more detail about Russell McVeagh’s team-up with Te Whakahaere in this exclusive feature.
