An IP specialist in Wellington has decided to strike out on her own and establish a firm.
Kate Duckworth has launched Kate Duckworth Intellectual property after leaving Catalyst Intellectual Property, where she was a partner from 2012 until last year.
She also spent more than 10 years at Baldwins Intellectual Property, eventually joining the firm’s partnership.
The seasoned lawyer was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 2000. She moved to Baldwins from the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand, where she started her legal career as a trade marks adviser.
Duckworth, who is a registered patent attorney in both New Zealand and Australia, is a specialist in intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution. She has a particular focus on the digital environment, entertainment, music, and fashion.
Her practice also encompasses branding, trademarks, copyrights, patents, designs, domain names, counterfeiting, ambush marketing, major events, trade secrets, and confidential information. She regularly acts for both local and foreign corporations and has come before the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand for more than 50 times to represents clients in hearings.
