Donald F. McGahn led the Jones Day team that represented Donald J. Trump on the campaign trail.
President-elect Donald J. Trump has picked another Donald as his White House counsel.
Donald F. McGahn, a partner at American giant Jones Day and former chairman of the Federal Election Commission, will advise on ethics and the legality of executive orders and legislation.
McGahn, whose specialties include government regulation and political law, will also vet possible appointees including Supreme Court justices, says Reuters.
“Don has a brilliant legal mind, excellent character and a deep understanding of constitutional law. He will play a critical role in our administration,” Trump said of McGahn.
McGahn spent years as counsel to the National Republican Congressional Committee, the Republican Party’s supervisory organisation for U.S. House of Representatives campaigns.
According to The Washington Post, McGahn is a libertarian election lawyer who backed looser restrictions on campaign spending while on the Federal Election commission.
In a statement, the lawyer said that the President-elect is a “bold leader committed to draining the swamp in Washington and restoring economic prosperity and security. I look forward to serving the American public in this role.”
Recently, Trump had also named several big law lawyers to his transition team at the Department of Justice.
