Judge erupts as woman brought to court without pants
The judge apologised after she also learned from the defence lawyer that the woman was not given feminine hygiene products.
A Kentucky judge lost her cool after a female defendant was brought into her court without pants.
According to a report from People, district court judge Amber Wolf was left dumbfounded after also being told that the woman, who has been in custody for two to three days, was not given any female hygiene products by prison officials.
In a video of the incident that has since gone viral, the judge can be heard saying at one point: “Excuse me? This is outrageous. Is this for real?”
The woman’s lawyer also told the judge that some inmates were not being allowed to shower.
“Am I in the Twilight Zone? What is happening?” the judge once said during the proceedings.
Judge Wolf also called Mark Bolton, the director of Louisville Metro Corrections, about the incident.
“What the hell is going on? I'm holding her here until she is dressed appropriately to go back to jail. This is outrageous,” Wolf told Bolton.
Metro Corrections Deputy Director Dwayne Clark gave the woman clothing towards the end of the proceedings, the video shows, saying, “Dressed like she was, she should have been changed into a jumpsuit.”
He also vowed to look into why the woman wasn’t given a jumpsuit.
Judge Wolf apologised to the woman saying, “This is completely inhumane and unacceptable. I’m sorry you had to go through this.”
Corrections officials told local station KDRB that the woman was wearing athletic shorts at the time but that this was covered by her long shirt.
The woman was arrested for failing to complete a diversion program after a 2014 shoplifting charge. The judge released the woman with a $100 fine after taking time served into account.
