With the promotion of three women, firm is also making strides in promoting gender equality
K3 Legal has appointed three of its women lawyers to senior roles.
The firm has appointed Helen Edwards as director, while Julie Ding and Joy Yan have been appointed as associates.
With the promotion of the trio, a third of the firm’s directors and more than half of the entire team are women. Mark Kirkland, K3 director, said that as the firm focuses on offering the best legal representation to clients, it also believes in gender equality.
Edwards began her legal career as a solicitor at Auckland firm Stafford Klaassen in 2002. In 2008, she moved to an in-house role at Enara Group Limited in the UK before becoming a legal counsel at the insurance – corporate partnerships group of the Royal Bank of Scotland in London in 2011. She returned to Auckland in 2013 to join legacy Kirkland Morrison O’Callahan as an associate.
Part of the firm’s commercial and property team, Edwards specialises in litigation in commercial, corporate, finance, and property law matters. She has recently worked on private equity investments, complex property transactions, IT contracts, transactional documents, shareholder agreements, and constitutional work.
Ding, who has been with K3 since 2015, has appeared in the District and High Courts, acting for clients in complex civil, commercial, and family disputes. She is also involved in criminal litigation as a legal aid provider. She is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Yan, who has also been with K3 since 2015, specialises in employment, immigration, commercial business and property acquisition. She also acts for clients in employment relationship disputes.
