The committee is part of the organisation’s “Creating a Just Culture” initiative
The New Zealand Law Society is looking to appoint lawyers to a new national standards committee as part of its “Creating a Just Culture” plan.
The committee will tackle complaints about harassment and bullying in the legal profession. to be eligible for appointment as a lawyer member, an individual must have practiced as a lawyer for an aggregate period of five years. They must also be of good character and possess the skill, experience, and judgment needed to deal with complaints and make appropriate decisions, the Law Society said.
Applicants who have experience in dealing with unacceptable conduct in the workplace, as well those who have experience in a regulatory committee, are likely to have an advantage in getting in.
Some preparatory work is required. Meetings, usually held monthly, are convened via video link. The work is voluntary, but expenses will be reimbursed.
Applications are welcomed from all regions of the country until 5:00pm on 2 August. Further information about the application process is available on the Law Society website.
