The New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal has meted out a six-month suspension to an Auckland lawyer after he admitted to three charges against him.
For defaulting on $18,582 of fines and costs ordered by the Lawyers Standards Committee, Brian Fox admitted a charge of misconduct.
For failing to honour an agreement with the
New Zealand Law Society to pay the fines and costs though monthly instalments, he also admitted a charge of unsatisfactory conduct.
Fox also admitted another unsatisfactory conduct charge after he lied about complying with the committee’s orders when he renewed his practicing certificate in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Fox is to pay the original fines and costs until 6 May 2018. He was also ordered to pay the Law Society an additional $18,000 in legal costs.
The lawyer’s suspension begins on 13 October.
