MinterEllisonRuddWatts advised the
Ministry of Justice on Christchurch’s Justice and Emergency Services Precinct, which has just been opened.
The $300m project is the first of its kind in New Zealand and is an anchor development of Christchurch’s rebuilding program. It is the largest multi-agency co-location project in the country. Every day, around 2,000 people are expected to use the 42,000sqm precinct, which includes the Justice Building, the Emergency Services Building, and a carpark.
Minters’ team was led by partners Mark Crosbie and Patricia Green. The team advised on a broad set of matters, including on construction and real estate issues, since the inception of the project.
“We’re proud to have been part of this significant development, working alongside the ministry’s talented project team to deliver an excellent outcome for Cantabrians,” Crosbie said.
He said the firm drew on the experience from other projects to provide strategic advice on the complex project.
“We advised on both practical and legal effects throughout the project, including the various preliminary options. Our work supported the ministry in making key decisions, including contract claims and potential disputes during the project’s planning, construction, and future operations,” Green said.
