Allen & Overy victim of cyber crime
Allen & Overy has issued a warning to its clients that an email scam is circulating using the firm’s brand and the name of one of its partners. The scam involves a phishing email purporting to be from the law firm and using the name of Troy Edwards; a genuine partner in the London office. The emails ask recipients to pay a fee to release inheritance money from a deceased relative.
New partner at Squire Patton Boggs in Perth
Squire Patton Boggs has announced the appointment of construction partner Brendan Reilly who has joined the firm’s Perth office and was previously partner and head of construction and infrastructure at Allion Legal.
Former Olswang boss resigns from the firm
Having already stepped down as CEO at Olswang David Stewart has now formally resigned from the firm. Having been with the firm in 1997 and becoming managing partner 10 years later and then CEO he is now seeking new challenges elsewhere. The firm will be electing a new CEO in the coming months and Michael Burdon is the interim chief.
Airbag and motor manufacturers could face class action
Japanese airbag manufacturer Takarta Corp is being investigated by US regulators and facing action in court over faulty airbags fitted in millions of vehicles. Now the firm is also named in a lawsuit filed in a Florida court seeking class action status on behalf of consumers throughout the US claiming Takarta and motor manufacturers including Toyota and Honda defrauded them by not disclosing crucial information.
