A top intellectual property lawyer in Australia who’s licensed to practice in New Zealand faces indecent assault charges.
According to numerous reports, Carl Harrap was tackled to the ground by witnesses as he allegedly assaulted a 20-year-old woman jogging along the Clontarf Track, near Manly in Sydney.
The Daily Telegraph notes that witnesses “confronted” Harrap and held him down while waiting for the authorities to arrive. The Daily Mail notes that the 40-year-old is married with children.
Police revealed that the man was taken into custody and charged with “assault with act of indecency.” He has been released on conditional bail and is due to appear in court on January 18.
According to the NZ Herald, Harrap is a registered patent attorney in New Zealand and Australia. He is also a solicitor in Australia.
Harrap is currently principal at Freehills Patent Attorneys which he joined in 2013 after seven years at Herbert Smith Freehills. He used to work at New Zealand firm Baldwins which specialises in intellectual property.
Harrap has “particular experience and interest in assisting his clients to defend or attack patents in patent oppositions before the Australian Patent Office,” the FPA website said. “He also provides specialist patent and design infringement and validity advice for litigation.”
