Despite stiff competition from top firms across Asia, the Kiwi firm took home the award
Russell McVeagh took home a top prize at this year’s Asia Women in Business Law Awards.
Despite stiff competition from other leading firms from across the Tasman and from other parts of Asia, the firm was recognised for the “Best Gender Diversity Initiative by a National Firm” at the awards.
The award is testament to the success of the firm’s “Diversity Project,” which was launched in 2014, said Sarah Armstrong, senior partner and board member.
Lesley Elvidge, Russell McVeagh HR director, accepted the award for the firm at a ceremony held in Hong Kong last night.
“We are delighted to have been recognised for our progress in creating a diverse and inclusive working environment, and have worked hard to continue implementing new and exciting initiatives that we are passionate about,” Elvidge said. “It is evident that the firm's commitment in this area is bringing about positive change, and while there is still much work to be done and room for further growth, we are thrilled to be recognised with this win for our efforts at an international level and up against top firms from across Asia.”
Russell McVeagh vied against Australia’s Gilbert + Tobin, New Zealand’s MinterEllisonRuddWatts, Hong Kong’s Charltons, Taiwan’s LCS & Partners, South Korea’s Lee & Ko, India’s Phoenix Legal, and Singapore’s WongPartnership for the award.
The firm has long been implementing the Russell McVeagh Diversity Project, which includes the formation of a diversity working group, the launch of a new parental leave policy, and the publishing of the firm’s first corporate social responsibility report. The firm is also focused on conducting various training and development programmes and implementing flexible working technology for staff at all levels.
